David Punch - In This Together (single)
A one-man writing, touring, recording and performing act, Cork songwriter David Punch is no stranger to working hard to promote his music, and like the wave of optimism that flows through ‘In This Together’, Punch has come through the other side of these strange times more determined and experienced in his craft:
“As a musician myself, lockdown has definitely helped me with my productive creativity. I have been writing ever since lockdown started. I’m starting to release more of my original music, and working on new ideas for music projects in the future. I have recently bought my grandfather's keyboard for songwriting and also a MIDI keyboard for producing my own songs."
New single "In This Together’’ balances the monotony of lockdown life with the optimism that - as always - unity will prevail.
With current situation being so uncertain and unpredictable, quite a lot of people may find themselves trapped or desperate. David Punch's new single will make all these thoughts disappear, at least for a while. The intro has a nice catchy pop feel, Punch's vocal leading the way towards better times. There is positivity and hope hroughout the song - we might be facing something tough in many ways but it's not gonna last forever and if we stay together (even if we are physically apart), everything will eventually improve.
The story he tells is personal and anybody can relate to it. There is sadness, there is desperation but there is longing as well. Longing for a return to normal.
That's a songwriter's duty in the end - to shine a light on current issues, look around, be attentive and speak about things others are not willing or able to. Or simply do that to help others. And David Punch shows he's more than capable of doing so. In the end, aren't the artists those who got us through the lockdown in the first place?
